The Three Sisters are without a doubt one of Australia’s most iconic natural landmarks. The combination of the stunning sandstone formation and the fascinating Dreaming story attributed to its formation make it a most incredible site to see when visiting the wonderful Blue Mountains!
The Three Sisters Walk provides you with plenty of amazing lookout points with panoramic views of the landmark and surrounding valley. This absolutely breezy walk is a simple one km return and takes about 45 minutes, but it is absolutely packed with awesome viewing and picnic spots along the way.
When partaking in this legendary walk, be sure to remember the magical Dreaming story that the Katoomba people have for the Three Sisters. The story goes that the Three Sisters were Meehni, Wimlah and Gunnedoo, members of the Katoomba tribe.
The three sisters had fallen in love with members of the neighbouring Nepean tribe, and had made plans to wed the brothers. However, tribal law simply wouldn’t allow such a marriage to take place, so the brothers conspired to kidnap the three sisters and take them back to their tribe.
A bloody tribal war ensued, and to save the sisters from being kidnapped a Katoomba elder cast them in stone. Alas, the elder was killed in the gory battle, and the sisters were left in their stone casts for all of eternity…
It’s a wonderful story, one that is etched into the minds of kids across Australia from an early age, and one that makes the Three Sisters Walk all the more remarkable, perfect for enjoying with this other amazing Blue Mountains adventure…
Scenic World
Okay, you’ve enjoyed the peace and tranquillity of the Three Sisters walk, now it’s time to get a little adrenaline-pumping fun into you! Scenic World is the place to make it happen, with awesome, thrill-seeking rides that take you high above the valley in the most exhilarating of ways.
The Scenic Railway is probably the starring attraction, being the steepest passenger railway in the world, but the ride that really gets the blood pumping is the Scenic Skyway – a 270m high cableway complete with glass bottom floor staring directly down in the valley below.
It’s getting us a bit jittery thinking about it, but if you love nothing more than trying something fun – and potentially terrifying – the Scenic Skyway is perfect for you!
