Discover the top adrenaline-filled experiences in the Blue Mountains.
The iconic Blue Mountains expands over 2,500 square kilometres of land, offering everything from dramatic cliffs to towering waterfalls.
Maybe you’re the type of traveller that enjoys taking in the scenery from the safety of a lookout point. Or perhaps you want to check out Scenic World for an adventurous viewing experience. Or maybe you are a thrill seeker and want to try something a little different. Why not try rock climbing or abseiling in the Blue Mountains?
Rock climbing in the Blue Mountains
Because of the countless rocks and cliff faces, the Blue Mountains is a great place for rock climbing. There are climbing spots for people of all climbing levels. There are also different types of climbing routes available from bouldering to trad climbing.
When climbing outdoors, you will always want to make sure that you have the necessary gear, such as a rope, harness and helmet. You should also never go climbing alone just in case there is an accident.
Once you are fully prepared, it’s time to check out some of the rock climbing hotspots in the Blue Mountains!
-
The Soft Parade
Located in Mount Victoria, this climbing location is perfect for beginners just starting out with lead climbing. There are different climbing grades in this area, with a trad climbing section just to the left if you’re a more experienced climber.
-
The Sunbath
This climbing route is located in Medlow Bath. There are routes available for everyone from beginners to those more experienced. This climbing hotspot is located near the Medlow Bath station, convenient if you’re relying on public transit in the Blue Mountains.
-
The Dam Cliffs
The Dam Cliffs is more of a difficult climbing area, located near an abandoned dam. If you’re tired from climbing, you can admire the water of the dam below or check out one of the rope swings.
Abseiling in the Blue Mountains
Abseiling can basically be thought of as the opposite of rock climbing. Rather than climbing up a rock’s surface, abseiling is when you descend a near-vertical rock surface. When abseiling, you will hold onto a rope that you control yourself as you descend down the mountain. This thrilling activity may not be for those afraid of heights but it definitely gets the adrenaline pumping!
Is there a place for abseiling in the Blue Mountains? Absolutely!
Since abseiling requires a guide, this isn’t one that you’ll be able to do on your own. However, there are plenty of abseiling adventures available for booking in the Blue Mountains. When you book an abseiling tour, you’ll receive a helmet, harness and gloves for optimal comfort. Then you will be briefed with safety instructions before beginning your adventure!
Most abseiling tours start off easy and then move to higher and higher cliffs.
Take on the Blue Mountains in a unique way with a rock climbing or abseiling adventure!
