Winter in the Blue Mountains
The seasons differ dramatically in the Blue Mountains. Winters are very chilly, and summers can be mild with a hint of a chill!
In the Blue Mountains area, it is slightly colder than Sydney. You’ll certainly feel more of a chill in the air if you’re coming from Sydney!
In the upper mountains, there is also more rainfall so you can expect heavier waterfalls in the winter.

Climates in the winter
Winters are cold in the Blue Mountains! But does it snow in the Blue Mountains?
In the upper Blue Mountains, there can be snowfall. In places like Blackheath, Katoomba, Mount Victoria, you might even expect a sprinkle of snow up to 5 days a year.
The further up into the mountains you go, the colder it will start to get.
For three to five days a year, the region might see snowfall – but it isn’t quite as common. On the occasion that it does snow, it lights up the mountain tops and you’ll get a rare sighting of the blue mountains covered in pretty frost.
Even without the snow, the mountains can be quite chilly for visitors – so if you visit during the winter make sure you layer up! The early mornings and winter evenings are particularly chilly, so make sure you have plenty of blankets. Check that you have central heating in your accommodation!
Visiting the Blue Mountains in the winter is a cosy time to go. Enjoy the scenery from the warm confines of a mountain lodge, with a cup of something warm. Do check the weather conditions before you go on any hikes though! The paths can get slippery in the mornings.
