Mountains with blue sky and trees on each side of a hiking trail

What to Pack for the Blue Mountains

Activities in the Blue Mountains are outdoorsy, so it’s a good idea to get packed up with all your outdoor gear!

If you’re doing a lot of bushwalking activities, we’d recommend taking a backpack so that you can comfortably store all of your belongings and carry them around with you.

Jumper

The Blue Mountains are 1215 meters above sea level, so it can get a bit chilly up there! Taking layers is a good idea if you want to regulate your body temperature on a hike. Get breathable, light layers that are easy to store in your bag during a walk. This will help you regulate your temperature better, but also carry on enjoying the outdoors without a heavy jumper or coat!

Hiking boots

Even if you haven’t planned to do much hiking, you might feel the need to go hiking last minute! There are heaps of hiking trails, walking paths and circuits around the Blue Mountains National Park. Some areas near the waterfalls might be a bit slippery, so wear some boots that have a sturdy grip.

Water bottle

Stay hydrated during your time in the Blue Mountains! Make sure you take a big refillable water bottle, as you’re going to need to hydrate if you’re doing lots of hikes!

Sunscreen

Don’t be deceived by the cooler climates…the sun is still strong no matter where you are! The UV is higher in Australia due to holes in the ozone layer, so it’s stronger down under. That means you should get a sunscreen that is Aussie approved, because the quality standards on Aussie sunscreens are higher to reflect the stronger UV.

Battery pack

It’s amazing how quickly your phone battery can decrease when you’re taking heaps of videos and photos of the beautiful scenery around you! Make sure you take a battery pack if you want backup power. This will allow you to be able to recharge your devices.

Snacks

With all that bushwalking, you never know when hunger will hit! Take some emergency packaged snacks in your bag, just in case you start to feel hungry. If you want to snack the Aussie way, tuck into a box of Pizza Shapes, Tim Tams, or a pack of Trail Mix.
