Exploring Katoomba Falls at Night

The magic of the Katoomba Falls night walk…

Exploring Katoomba Falls is magical enough during the daytime, but at night, this beauty spot comes alive.

The natural attraction opens for a magnificent nighttime walk that allows you to see the Three Sisters in the dark!

The evening lights are switched on around this iconic trail. This creates an atmospheric, moody lighting, which makes for an unforgettable time to walk around this fascinatingly unique rock formation.

Watch as this incredible rock formation is lit up with rock-attached lights that showcase the beauty of these magnificent rocks.

The walk around the waterfalls is a 1.3-kilometre walk in total. Plus, it’s free, so there are no entry time requirements. Just turn up and wander around. Make sure you complete your walk before the lights go out, though!

The Katoomba Falls walk…

The walk takes you around:

  • Orphan Rock
  • Witches Leap
  • Katoomba Falls
  • Katoomba Cascades

Don’t want to do the whole walk? You can get yourself to the lookout in just 15 minutes. Simply follow the signs from the Katoomba Falls car park!

But if you want to do the whole walk, it’ll take you 45-minutes.

The sun goes down, and the lights turn on…

As the sun begins to set, the lights come on to illuminate the pathway. Then the floodlights are turned off at 10:30 pm. The main lights for the entire pathway are switched off at 11 pm, so please try to leave the area by 10:30 pm to avoid being caught in the dark. (Bring a flashlight, just in case…)

It is highly advised that you put on some sturdy footwear, too! If it’s just rained, then the floor will be slippery, so make sure you’ve got a good grip on your feet.

Witches Leap Lookout Walks

Witches Leap is a lookout that showcases a beautiful cave-like waterfall that is lit up. Visiting this small waterfall at night is a moody and atmospheric time to experience it.

Escape the crowds, admire the waterfall at a unique time, and enjoy a starlit experience that’ll feel like you’ve got the waterfall all to yourself.

Sunset walk

There is also a sunset walkaround that you can do! Check out this wonderful area of the Blue Mountains as the sun goes down.

Pick a beautiful sunny day with a golden sunset, and you’ll be able to experience a beautiful orange-tinted sky.
